The new “Extensions” system is also planned for iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 this fall, with support expected from apps such as Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude.
Apple says installed apps will provide generative AI on demand across Siri, Writing Tools and Image Playground, and users may assign different Siri voices depending on which external model responds.
The move expands beyond Apple’s existing ChatGPT fallback in Siri and Image Playground, while complementing its Gemini partnership ahead of iOS 27’s expected unveiling at WWDC on 8 June.
