Prates earned his seventh UFC knockout by stopping Jack Della Maddalena on Saturday, leaving him six short of Brown's welterweight record of 13.
Brown praised the Brazilian's varied striking and said he would be happy to see Prates eventually challenge his mark, after Prates also knocked out Leon Edwards in his previous fight.
He said Prates, Ian Machado Garry and Michael Morales would all face a daunting task against welterweight champion Makhachev, with Garry widely expected to get the next title shot in August.
