Announced in Palm Springs, California, the release adds Azure Virtual Desktop Hybrid on Nutanix Cloud Platform in public preview and is due for broader public preview in late May.
Nerdio said version 8.0 also adds Terraform-based installation, Global Pools for cross-region desktop delivery, Intune Policy Studio, and expanded reporting across Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop and physical endpoints.
The company says the update supports hybrid, edge and on-premises migration paths, while Microsoft said Azure Virtual Desktop Hybrid lets customers shift session hosts from on-premises at their own pace.
As VDI costs shift, is Nerdio's Nutanix integration a true VMware alternative or just a new form of vendor lock-in?
Does managing on-prem VDI from the cloud truly simplify IT, or does it create a more complex hybrid dependency?
