Michael McCaul warns Texas Republicans against nominating Ken Paxton

At Austin's KUT Festival, the retiring congressman backed Senator John Cornyn, saying some Republicans he polled might not support Paxton in a runoff.
McCaul said he would still vote for Paxton if he won, but argued the attorney general's impeachment trial and other controversies give Democrats more attack lines.
He also said he is unlikely to seek office again, criticised rising political violence and partisan redistricting, and said presidents should seek congressional approval before war, including against Iran.
