The deal lets OAK adopt the name Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport, ending a two-year trademark fight over branding linked to San Francisco International Airport.
Settlement terms require Oakland to place “Oakland” before “San Francisco” and “Bay” after it, and bar “San Francisco” or “SF” from leading the airport’s branding.
The dispute began after OAK’s 2024 renaming attempt, which San Francisco said would confuse travellers; Oakland argued the bay reference would improve geographic recognition and help attract airline routes.
