The man was found about 30 feet below the fixed rope section in a rocky ravine after rescuers were called at 1:51 p.m. Saturday in Sierra Madre, Southern California.
Sierra Madre Search and Rescue and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Air 5 medics attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity has not been released.
The trail was temporarily closed while multiple agencies recovered the body, and authorities are still investigating whether a medical emergency contributed to the fall.
