WHO said seven hantavirus cases, including two confirmed, have been identified on the Dutch cruise ship, where three passengers died and 149 people from 23 countries remain aboard near Cape Verde.
The agency suspects rare human-to-human spread through close contact, possibly after one infected passenger boarded, while two symptomatic crew members are due to be evacuated to the Netherlands.
Spain said it has not yet received a request for the ship to stop in the Canary Islands, though authorities are prepared to provide treatment, testing and disinfection if needed.
