Capture the Atlas announces 2026 Milky Way Photographer of the Year winners

The ninth edition drew a record 6,500 submissions, with 25 winning images by photographers of 15 nationalities shot across 12 countries and regions.
The collection includes rare scenes from Chile's Very Large Telescope, Argentina's restricted Valle de la Luna and a canyon in the Hopi Indian Reservation, plus meteor showers and a Florida fireball.
Editor Dan Zafra said winners were chosen for quality, story and originality, while the project also aims to highlight increasingly rare dark skies and encourage their protection.
