The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Ruger tracked the boy on 21 April after smelling his sock, leading Officer Chris Havens and other officers to Beach Boulevard and Ryar Road.
Body-camera video captured officers hearing the teenager's cries for help from a nearby business lot before finding him sitting alone and bringing him for a check-up.
Police said the boy was reunited with his family after vanishing from home, and Ruger was rewarded with his favourite chew toy for helping locate him safely.
