Speaking on UConn's campus, Auriemma said he felt "like a dumb---" after confronting Staley in the closing moments of UConn's 62-48 Final Four loss in Phoenix.
He said his outburst followed frustration over South Carolina's physical play, a lack of fouls called and what he believed was a missed pregame handshake.
Staley had earlier dismissed the incident, saying she greets many coaches before games and thought she had acted normally, as the exchange drew attention after UConn's semifinal exit.
