Near the Washington Monument, a 15-year-old boy suffered a non-life-threatening wound, the suspect was hospitalised with multiple gunshot wounds, and a firearm was recovered.
Officials said the man fired after agents approached him around 3:30 p.m. at 15th Street SW and Independence Avenue; no officers were injured, and police closed nearby roads for hours.
The White House said there was no known link to the executive complex and President Trump was not in danger, though the shooting came just over a week after another attack nearby.
