The Toronto Blue Jays TV broadcaster called the longtime New York Yankees radio voice “a true original” in a post on X after Sterling’s death was confirmed Monday.
Sterling retired in 2024 after 36 years with the Yankees, calling more than 5,600 games, including a streak of over 5,000 consecutive broadcasts from 1989 to 2019.
The Yankees said he entertained generations with a theatrical style and famous home run calls, while possible tributes could come when New York visits Toronto in June.
