ESPN said Monday the pair will face off in Los Angeles on Friday, Bayless's first appearance on the show since leaving in June 2016.
The network is seeking a ratings lift after First Take rose only 5%, lagging Get Up's 18% gain and The Pat McAfee Show's 16% increase.
ESPN called it a one-time reunion, dampening talk of a longer return, and will also bring in Cam'ron and Kid Mero to debate Smith next week.
