The feature adds four protections for individual free and paid accounts, including passkeys or physical security keys, stronger recovery methods, shorter sessions and AI training disabled by default.
Users must set up two authentication methods, while email and SMS recovery are disabled in favour of backup passkeys, security keys or recovery keys.
OpenAI said the controls are aimed at higher-risk users such as journalists and dissidents, also cover Codex, and are expected to expand later to enterprise customers.
