The New York first-time rider joins 32,000 entrants on Sunday after a gas-powered scooter crash left her with a traumatic brain injury and 15 staples in her head.
Hochhauser said she lives daily with the consequences of not wearing a helmet and remembers nothing of the accident until treatment began.
She said the injury also cost her a chance to begin training as an MTA bus driver, after previously working as a school bus driver.
