Police said the woman entered through a back window on North Cleveland Street after 1pm, was taken to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead.
Inspector D.F. Pace said residents told her to leave before she was shot multiple times, and the licensed gun owner then helped officers move her to a patrol car.
No arrests have been made and police have not identified the woman. A neighbour said nearby vacant, squatter-occupied houses have caused repeated disturbances in the area.
