The Dearborn, Michigan, carmaker said costs rose from $1bn after the Iran war, a 50% US tariff and Novelis outages in Oswego, New York.
Ford's F-Series sales fell to about 160,000 in the first quarter from 190,000 a year earlier, while dealer inventories tightened and the company sought a tariff waiver.
Ford, the industry's biggest aluminum buyer after making the F-150 aluminum-bodied in 2014, expects Oswego's rolling line to restart this month and plans 150,000 extra trucks this year.
