The 22-year-old moved three frames clear of Shaun Murphy at Sheffield's Crucible, finishing Sunday's second session with a 91 break after the match resumed level at 4-4.
Wu compiled breaks of 82, 103, 89 and 66, while Murphy, 43, stayed in touch and cut the deficit to 9-7 before losing the final frame.
If he wins Monday's concluding sessions, Wu would become the second-youngest Crucible champion and the second successive Chinese winner after Zhao Xintong.
