Creative director Julia Nardin said Bungie has mapped several years of story for the console and PC extraction shooter, which launched in March and has sold an estimated 1.2 million initially.
He said Tau Ceti's backstory is fixed, but future narrative beats can shift with player feedback as Bungie adds clues and seasonal developments.
Bungie also wants each season to be an easy entry point for newcomers, avoiding Destiny-style confusion, and plans frequent smaller updates rather than infrequent large releases.
