On The Rosebud Podcast for her 80th birthday, Mills said a wrongly structured trust triggered a 91% UK surtax, costing her more than $17 million in today’s money.
She blamed poor advice from family solicitor Stanley Passmore and said court and government appeals failed after an initial ruling in her favour was overturned by the House of Lords.
Mills, star of Pollyanna and The Parent Trap, said the loss pushed her to keep working, though she later said she fared better than many child actors because of family support.
