On a Murena Fairphone 6 running /e/OS, the author missed school pickup messages after group chats stayed on RCS and stopped delivering replies.
The report says Google silently blocks RCS on rooted phones and custom ROMs, while Google Messages is effectively required because other Android messaging apps cannot access compatible RCS support.
Users can try de-registering their number from RCS before switching phones, but changes may take weeks and some chats may need to be deleted and recreated as MMS threads.
