In the US, SMS, MMS and RCS will stop working in Samsung Messages, with only emergency messaging remaining after deactivation.
Samsung directs users on Android 12 and 13 to switch to Google Messages, already the default on new Galaxy devices and unavailable to download on the Galaxy S26.
Users on Android 11 or lower are not affected, while older Tizen Galaxy Watches lose full conversation history; Samsung began moving users toward Google Messages in 2021 and stopped preinstalling its app in 2024.
