Egypt's antiquities ministry said the 5-6 ton, more than 7-foot statue was found at Tel Pharaoh in Sharqia Governorate, northeast of Cairo.
Officials said the damaged statue, missing its legs and base, was likely moved in antiquity from Pi-Ramesses for reuse in a religious complex and has been transferred for urgent restoration.
