The dead included two children, with five people injured after heavy rain caused flooding and landslides in Recife and nearby Olinda, authorities said.
In Recife's Dois Unidos, a woman and her six-year-old son died in a hillside collapse, while in Olinda a 20-year-old woman and her six-month-old son were buried by a landslide.
Five people were rescued from the Olinda site, damage spread across the Recife metropolitan area and inland municipalities, and Recife's international airport suspended operations for more than five hours.
