Research from 6,300 over-50s found 73% want to work but do not know their next role, while 40% said ageism hinders recruitment.
Speakers from FDM Group, Babcock International and Good Life Sorted said blind recruitment, paid reskilling, peer support and older interviewers can improve hiring and retention.
FDM said about 250 of 650 returners it supported were over 50, while attendees were told to audit job descriptions for age bias and focus on transferable skills.
