Kingston University pharmacy lecturer Dipa Kamdar said magnesium may aid sleep, anxiety and bone density, while a 14-week study linked creatine to stronger lower-body muscles and better sleep in perimenopausal women.
She said evidence for lion's mane and collagen is weaker or mixed, and magnesium does not appear to help hot flushes, weight changes or cognitive symptoms.
Kamdar said HRT remains the most effective treatment for many symptoms, while supplement quality varies and people with kidney disease should seek medical advice; exercise, sleep, diet and stress management remain best-supported measures.
If magnesium and creatine show the most promise, why do so many women still struggle to find reliable relief without resorting to hormone therapy?
Could focusing on gut health and anti-inflammatory habits transform the menopause experience more than any supplement or medication?
