Researchers link ultra-processed food to declining attention in adults

In a study of 2,192 Australian adults published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia, each 10% rise in calories from ultra-processed foods was tied to slightly lower attention scores and higher estimated dementia risk.
The association persisted after accounting for overall diet quality, and even participants closely following Mediterranean-style diets showed the effect.
Researchers said the study shows correlation, not causation; memory was not affected, but the findings add to concerns about nutrient-poor foods high in additives and preservatives.
