On his Thursday podcast, the 51-year-old former FBI deputy director said Hegseth could join Vice-President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as Republican contenders.
Bongino cited unrevealed Pentagon changes, stronger military recruiting and claimed administration goals in Iran and Venezuela were largely met, despite acknowledging casualties.
His endorsement came after Hegseth's combative House Armed Services Committee defence of the Iran war amid accusations he misled the White House and fostered turmoil inside the Pentagon.
