In Cranberry, Pennsylvania, the 39-year-old forward said he will meet general manager Kyle Dubas on Friday before returning to Russia, with free agency possible on 1 July.
Malkin said he does not intend to retire, even if Pittsburgh does not re-sign him after the final season of the four-year, $24.4m contract he signed in 2022.
The three-time Stanley Cup winner had earlier said he would join another NHL team if needed, a notable shift after long hoping to finish his career with the Penguins.
