The stock closed at $77.53 on Friday, its second straight gain, as trading volume reached 2.6 million shares, well above its 50-day average of 1.5 million.
Eastman outpaced peers including Exxon Mobil, Dow and Corteva, whose shares all fell, during a mixed session in which the S&P 500 edged up and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped.
Even after the rally, Eastman remained 7.9% below its 52-week high of $84.18, reached on May 12.
