Rose’s candidacy became possible after Commissioner Rob Manfred removed him from MLB’s ineligible list in May 2025, and Manfred said Trump’s support was among factors in that decision.
Rose, who died in September 2024 aged 83, admitted gambling on baseball in 2004 and had predicted shortly before his death that any Hall of Fame election would come posthumously.
