Ahead of Saturday's UFC Perth main event against Jack Della Maddalena, Prates said a win should earn him a welterweight title shot after his knockout of Leon Edwards at UFC 322.
He dismissed a possible bout with former champion Kamaru Usman, saying only a fight for the belt makes sense if he beats two former champions in a row.
Prates joked he could drop to lightweight if Topuria leapfrogs contenders, though he said he would rather wait. The title picture also includes Islam Makhachev, Michael Morales and Ian Machado Garry.
