The former Build-A-Bear boss will take over in mid-June after Douglas Palladini left following just over a year, with finance chief Richard Westenberger serving as interim CEO.
John led Build-A-Bear for 13 years, overseeing a turnaround and expansion, and previously held senior roles at Stride Rite, Hasbro and Mattel.
Carter's, which sells baby and young children's clothing, reaffirmed its full-year outlook for low- to mid-single-digit sales growth and adjusted earnings per share down by low-double digits to mid-teens.
