The group demanded Fairfax County Public Schools scrap Regulation 2603, saying it lets staff support student social transitions without notifying parents and may breach FERPA.
Its letter to Superintendent Michelle Reid cites the March Supreme Court ruling in Mirabelli v. Bonta and argues the policy also violates parents' constitutional due process rights.
FCPS said it is reviewing the letter and will stay aligned with state and federal law. AFL had already filed a federal civil rights complaint over the same issue in January.
