Essa Suleiman remanded in custody over three attempted murder charges

At Westminster Magistrates’ Court, the 45-year-old Londoner was sent to the Central Criminal Court for a 15 May hearing after Wednesday’s attacks in Golders Green and South London.
Prosecutors said Suleiman first stabbed Ishmail Hussein, then travelled north and attacked Shloime Rand outside a synagogue and Norman Shine at a bus stop; police classed the Jewish-targeted assault as terrorism.
Rand has left hospital and Shine is stable. Police said Suleiman was referred to the Prevent anti-extremism programme in 2020, as ministers promised stronger Jewish community security after recent antisemitic attacks.
