DESI collaboration completes record-breaking 3D universe map

Over five years, it gathered data on more than 47 million galaxies and quasars plus 20 million stars, finishing the full target area ahead of schedule.
Managed by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the project involves more than 900 researchers from over 70 institutions and could test whether dark energy changes as the universe expands.
DESI says it collected six times more galaxy and quasar data than all previous surveys combined; full-survey results are due in 2027, with observations continuing through 2028.
