A Greenhouse survey of 1,132 UK workers found 47% had faced AI interviews and 30% had quit applications that used them.
Candidates described one-way, timed video or chatbot screenings as awkward, humiliating and unclear, with some doubting anyone reviewed their answers and autistic applicants saying the format was especially difficult.
Some accepted employers use AI to handle heavy application volumes, but interviewees said the technology misses body language, blocks two-way discussion and still needs a stronger human element.
As AI interviews become the norm, are we sacrificing diversity and genuine human connection for efficiency—and is there a way back?
