In Goldsboro, North Carolina, six Dillard Charter Academy students were taken to UNC Health Wayne, while the driver was flown to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
The crash happened around 4pm at the bridge at North Carolina Street and West Vine Street, with nine children and two adults, including a bus monitor, aboard.
Earlier reports said the bus struck a 7-foot-6-inch low bridge; students' injuries were non-life-threatening, and the cause remains under investigation amid concerns about bridge warnings.
Given repeated crashes at this low bridge, what systemic failures are allowing school buses to keep hitting it, and who should be held accountable?
With new legislation on seat belts pending, how much could improved safety features have reduced the injuries suffered by these students?
