The Cook County Medical Examiner identified Atkinson as 84, and officials said the fire broke out about 5:50 a.m. on North Louise Avenue in Edgebrook.
Chicago fire officials said a car caught fire in the garage and sparked the blaze, and first responders found Atkinson inside the home with burns.
