On Apple's Q2 earnings call, Tim Cook said any recovered funds would also support US manufacturing, beyond the company's prior $600bn domestic commitment.
The move follows a Supreme Court ruling voiding tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and comes after Donald Trump suggested he would remember companies that declined refunds.
Ford said a $1.3bn refund lifted quarterly profit, while General Motors, FedEx, UPS and DHL are also pursuing repayments, with US Customs processing expected to take 60 to 90 days.
