Shares rose 5.02% to $671.01 on Thursday, topping the prior $665.13 peak set on 27 April as volume reached 879,111.
The gain ended a two-day losing streak during a broader market rally, with the S&P 500 up 1.02% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.62%.
Even so, Cummins lagged Caterpillar's 9.88% rise, while Aptiv gained 3.31% and Paccar added 0.56%; trading volume also exceeded its 50-day average of 831,094.
