The shares climbed 1.49% to $57.78 on Thursday, ending a five-day losing streak as the S&P 500 rose 1.02% and the Dow gained 1.62%.
Even with the advance, Freeport-McMoRan lagged rival Newmont, whose shares rose 3.23% to $111.09 in the same session.
The stock finished 18.58% below its 52-week high of $70.97 reached on 20 April, while trading volume of 16.2 million was below its 50-day average of 17.7 million.
