Cook County Judge D’Anthony Thedford ordered Talley, 27, held before trial over the fatal shooting of Chicago officer John Bartholomew, 38, and the wounding of another officer at Swedish Hospital.
Prosecutors said Talley, arrested after an armed Family Dollar robbery, feigned swallowing narcotics to reach hospital care, then pulled a gun from under a blanket, shot both officers and tried to escape.
Talley faces murder, attempted murder and other charges, had a nearly decade-long violent record, was on pretrial release in another armed robbery case, and is due back in court on 20 May.
