US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the move forms part of an Economic Prosperity Deal covering beef, pharmaceuticals and ethanol, after months of lobbying by Scotch and American distillers.
The industries are closely linked because Scottish distillers buy hundreds of millions of dollars of used Kentucky oak barrels for ageing spirits.
Scotch exports to the US fell 15% in 2025, while US whisky exports dropped 19%, with the Scotch Whisky Association calling the tariff removal a significant boost.
