The blast erupted at 2:57am in Ozone Park as officers answered a domestic dispute involving 50-year-old Anroop Parasaram, who was allegedly armed with a knife and gas cans.
Police said the officers were thrown back but then re-entered the burning three-family house to rescue children and other residents; all eight had minor injuries, including one head laceration.
Parasaram remained unaccounted for, while a five-alarm fire displaced 16 people from the home and nearby properties and prompted an ongoing NYPD-FDNY investigation and debris search.
