Dan Patrick said Texas health officials should stop the camp reopening its Cypress Lake site on 30 May, citing 27 deaths and 22 emergency-plan deficiencies.
After a two-day legislative hearing, operators said they were fixing the issues and had taken more than 800 deposits, while families of victims and survivors urged lawmakers not to renew the licence.
Patrick said Attorney General Ken Paxton could seek a temporary injunction, though he opposes permanent closure; Camp Mystic has argued it would appeal if the state refuses renewal.
