A police vehicle was set alight after Jefferson Lewis, accused of abducting and killing five-year-old Kumanjayi Little Baby, was taken there following his arrest at a town camp.
NT Police Commissioner Martin Dole said Alice Springs was devastated after the search for the missing girl ended with the discovery of her body.
Earlier reports said about 200 people attacked emergency services, police used tear gas and rubber bullets, and the crowd demanded traditional "payback" amid anger over Lewis's arrest.
