Police said two men, 76 and 34, were wounded in Barnet, north London, and identified the suspect as 45-year-old British national Essa Suleiman.
Authorities formally classified the attack as terrorism, saying the increase also reflects rising extreme right-wing threats, while ministers announced £25 million more to protect Jewish communities.
The funding lifts this year's total to £58 million for patrols, security at synagogues, schools and community centres, and Project Servator; the UK last set the threat level at severe in 2021.
