Disney-owned ABC affiliates face early FCC licence renewal probe

Brendan Carr said eight stations, including outlets in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, must show they served the public interest after Disney allegedly missed document deadlines.
Carr said the licences, otherwise due for renewal between 2028 and 2031, were accelerated over DEI concerns and incomplete disclosures, not the White House dispute over Jimmy Kimmel.
Disney said it will comply and defend its record under the Communications Act and First Amendment, while critics including Democratic commissioner Anna Gomez have called the move politically motivated.
