The 36-year-old was detained on Wednesday after the 48-year-old French biblical researcher was attacked near the Cenacle on Mount Zion and treated for facial injuries.
Her institute director said she was thrown onto a rock and repeatedly kicked, while the French Consulate, Israel's Foreign Ministry and Hebrew University condemned the attack.
The assault comes amid wider concern over anti-Christian hostility, with a Jerusalem interfaith group recording 155 incidents in 2025 and recent disputes over Palm Sunday access, Lebanon vandalism and Christian schools.
